Any good alternatives to Wesabe, the financial webapp?

https://www.wesabe.com/ was a good way to know where you spend the money, some analytics for incomes and it has a great way to import your bank accounts. But, sadly it's closing.

Is there any good alternatives? The only one I know is Mint.com, but it doesn't have the bank account import feature, so I can't use it if my bank is not supported.

  • Like you mentioned briefly, Mint.com is what I've been using, and it has been pretty impressively easy to work with. Although I must be lucky, my bank account is supported. This question seems to state that it doesn't work outside the USA either, so for UK people or people without supported banks, there are some solid recommendations there.

  • The best tool for managing money was Microsoft Money but sadly Microsoft decided it wasn't even worth the effort of maintaining the servers. At this point, the only robust option left is Quicken but it is hard to use, full of bugs, expensive, and not a web app. I don't think any web apps support imports and their support of banks is usually highly limited and even if listed often doesn't work. Mint is the perfect example of this. By my experience, 75% of the banks fail to update. I'm guessing this is because they are screen scraping and the screen scrapers break every other day as the bank websites change. But if you insist on using a webapp, the best IMO is Yodlee.

phwd : Microsoft Money and Quicken were/are the best !

  • Quicken's web app is fantastic. It is in fact free and has some pretty nifty features for categorizing your spending and having charges made to your credit card or bank account automatically categorized into those silos. This lets you track individual categories within your budget (i.e. $200/mo for auto expenses, $100/mo for coffee). I find that super handy. Works with loads of banks too.

FYI - Quicken now owns Mint.com, so I guess they might be merging at some point.

chollida : I second this. I use Quicken's web app and love it.

  • Why not give Xero Personal a try? We've always had a great amount of respect for Wesabe and are saddened to hear they won't continue. We'd like to try and help out all Wesabeans keep their data so have developed a Wesabe import tool: http://blog.xero.com/2010/07/importing-from-wesabe/ we'd really appreciate your feedback and hope you find a personal finance tool that works for you.

is an option, you can check if it supports your Bank... it certainly seems to support plenty of them.

It has analytics/reports custom categories, customised rules and budgets

  • I personally use YNAB and found it to be really great for managing my personal finances, and it has great support from it's developer. It doesn't connect directly to your bank but it does import a variety of formats.

Supports a lot of banks, including my Australia banks (which Mint doesn't do).

Richard : Should also be noted that I think mint.com is built on the yodlee platform
Josh Smith : Mint is indeed built on Yodlee.

  • I use buxfer for my personal finance(expense tracker and stuff). None of my banks are supported but the manual entry is quite easy. I just email them the number for each transaction and tag them later.

  • Here are two more:

    • Outright - haven't tried this but it seems ok
    • MoneyStrands - this one I believe has the closes feature set to Wesabe

  • I found mine: MoneyStrands. I've been using it for almost two weeks now and it's great. Supports account from banks not listed, has a cash account, different currencies, automatic or manual import for accounts (CSV, QFX and OFX are supported). It's pretty and has a very neat iPhone app (and a mobile web) It even tracks your bank accounts and "deposits" the money into your cash account when a withdrawal is registered. It's free and I think I'm sticking to it. Hope it helps! https://money.strands.com/

  • I'd really recommend GreenSherpa. They actually have an importer for Wesabe users in order to make the transition easier. Check them out! http://blog.greensherpa.com/index.php/other/greensherpa-welcomes-wesabe-users/
