Have firefox ask me where to save downloads

I am using Firefox 3.6.8 on a Mac with OS 10.6.4. How do I make it so that every time I download a file, firefox will ask me what location I want to save the file in?

  • Tools > Options > General

Set the radio button to ask you where to save files.

silenttothebone : I was actually asking because I just got a mac, but I figured it out. Thanks!
nhinkle : @silenttothbone If you have solved your problem, please mark the appropriate answer as accepted, or if none of the answers were your solution, please post a new answer yourself with the solution you found and mark it as accepted. Thank you!

MySQL query builder? (like Access has in Design View)

Is there any free tools that would let me build queries like one can in Access?

  • Yes there are - you can download the open source MySQL Workbench (screenshots).

Josh : This looks close, but I am having trouble finding a query designer. I can get the model of the schema to show up, and query things, but I am having trouble finding how to build the query graphically.
Force Flow : As far as I'm aware, there's no query browser. MySQL Workbench is indented as a database designer and creates the statements (or database directly) for MySQL.
Hamish Downer : @Josh - have you tried following the instructions starting from http://dev.mysql.com/doc/workbench/en/wb-sql-development.html

Dreamweaver automatically replacing symbols with HTML equivelent

I often find that Dreamweaver has replaced symbols with the HTMl equivalent (for example, " with &guot;, > with >). How do I stop this from happening?

From superuser dmr
  • Type in the code view instead of the WYSIWYG.

dmr : I have been typing in the code view...but thanks for answering!

  • Hopefully, this is the answer: Edit - Preferences - Code Rewriting - Uncheck "encode <, >, &, and " in attribute values using &.

Tools can get full file path (including filename)

OS: Windows XP SP3

Is there tool that can get the selected file full path (like c:\PathToFile\target.file) to clipboard? And which be added to windows file context menu. So that can get path by right click on the file. Thanks.

  • File menu tools can do this (among many other things).

Stan : Sweet, this is it. But one more question is where in registry to modify the FileMenu Tools context menu, so I can have a keyboard navigation (underline). For example, I want FileMenu Tools can be select by hitting 'F' and then copy path by hitting 'C'. Thanks.
CGA : This I don't know but you could try mailing the author at support@lopesoft.com.

where to download vmware workstation for linux ?

where to download vmware workstation for linux for free ?

Thanks

bryan : If you want something like that for free try Sun's Virtual Box http://www.virtualbox.org/
petersohn : VMWare Workstation is not free. VMWare Player is, but you still need to register. @bryan: VirtualBox is good, but slower than VMWare.
Dennis Williamson : [VMWare Server](http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/datacenter_downloads/vmware_server/2_0) is also free.

Laptop wont boot from cd/harddrive?

Problem: Wont boot.

Laptop starts, BIOS menu is accesible. Windows 7 is already installed on it, but wont boot. And then it just keeps showing black screen, with a flashing white: _

So something is wrong with the harddrive? But also when i put in a cd, and set CD as the first boot, and i put in a linux/windows cd, it doesnt do anything, and shows only the: _

Should i buy a new hard disk? Or try something else to determine whats wrong?

Can something be wrong with mbr or something? I dont know much about it.

Can I add my own internal link in windows save/open dialog window?

In windows 7 I am constantly saving things from the web and it really suck to have to navigate to my c drive then webserver folder then htdocs then project name then folder everytime I need to open or save a file there. Windows open and save dialog box has option to quick jump to drives and things like my documents, my photos, music. Is it possible to make my own quick jump link inside of these dialog windows?

In the photo below you can see the window I am talking about, under libraries, can I add my OWN link here to a certain folder? alt text

  • Sorry to answer my own question but this is very useful and I think some users may not know about it. I went to start menu -> accessories -> windows explorer and it brought me to Libraries window, I right click and click on "New Library" then create a name for the new library, in my case " Web Server" then I right click it's icon and go to properties, there you can add any folder's you want to show up in this library. This also makes this library show up in the open dialog window.

    Very awsome windows 7 feature!!!

  • If you create a new library (Downloads say) then that should appear in the first section.

    From ChrisF
  • can be done without libraries: just drag anything into the 'Favorites' folder on the left
